God over Government

Matthew Maher presents Romans 13:1-5 as the Apostle Paul framed it

Pastor Matthew Maher presented this message at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburn, VA on November 1, 2021.

1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

How Should Pastors and Church Leaders Respond to Bad Governments?

As we enter the New Year of 2022, let us look back at the harm done to the citizens of the United States of America in the past two years.

How many have lost their businesses?

How many have lost their jobs?

Many have died because they were blocked from receiving quick and proper medical treatments.

What has been the affect on our children and their education with remote learning and masks?

Have lock-downs been effective in stopping the spread of COVID-19?

Pastors, will you lock the doors of your church again if the government tells you to?

Is “pushing” the morality found in the Bible wrong in our modern and enlightened world?

When was the last time you heard a Salvation message preached at your church?

Have We Reached a Tipping Point?

The Bible is full of the history of God’s people who turned their backs on Him. I believe that America was founded on the Truth and Morality that God has given us in the Bible. Are we still, “One Nation Under God” as written on our currency and other places?

The evil and darkness we have been witnessing being revealed in the past two years is amazing. How could we have been so blind to what greed and sin has done to people we trusted? Were we blind or just, used to looking the other way?

As so often happened in the Bible, when God’s people turned away He either sent or allowed the enemy free reign and judgement feel. This happens when a tipping point is reached. I believe we are there now.

The Good News is, we are at the Tipping Point. God is releasing His truth and justice across our land and around the world. We are seeing victories in many places. Thousands of people are turning to Jesus as Savior!

Who is on the Lord’s side? If you are, share your story and your love of the Lord with others. The MOST important news you can share in 2022 is that… Jesus loves people and wants them to know and experience His love and power in their lives now. Salvation is not just to get us to heaven. Salvation is peace and joy NOW, in the midst of the hard times.

For over 25 years I operated my business, Mission Springs Marketing, where I helped ministries and churches, non-profit organizations and local businesses with their online operations and websites. As of December 31, 2022, I closed my business. I will still work on my own websites but will devote most of my time to family and ministry work with my wife Leslie.
