As we end 2021 and look to 2022, we need to anchor our hope in Jesus alone.

The past two years have been hard on many. Some have lost family and friends to sicknesses and accidents. So much craziness and evil is happening. Fear is growing daily for many. Where is God in all of this?

Between the closing of the Book of Malachi and the Book of Matthew in the Bible, scholars say is a span of about 400 years. From this period, roughly 420BC to 1AD, many people back then were probably asking the same question. The Jewish people suffered much under various rulers and kings. By the time of the birth of Jesus, they were under Roman rule.

The birth of Jesus Christ didn’t change the government rule which was harsh. However, the followers of Jesus after His death and resurrection found new hope and peace. All but one of Jesus’ disciples were killed for their faith in Him. Over the 2000 plus years since the birth of Christ, many Christians have died at the hands of murderous rulers for their faith. It is happening yet today and not only in places where the Gospel is banned.

Today as we are celebrating the birth of Jesus we need to strengthen ourselves in the Lord. Our part is to draw close to Him. His promise is that when we do this, He will draw close to us. One way to do this is reading the Bible. Another way is in worship and singing songs to God. Christmas is a great time of year to sing songs that remind us of the Gift that Jesus is to us.
